Strawberry Generation
Nowadays, people think that young people is weak and could not stand setbacks. Therefore, they called our generation “strawberry generation.” I think it is not proper to call our generation “strawberry generation.” After all, we are not as weak as they said. Because our life is more comfortable than the past, we do not experience many sufferings. Therefore, our ability to endure frustration is not as good as the elders. Our capability to deal with things is not so well, too. After we start working on society, we will face some difficulties. We may be very sad when we first meet failure, but I do not believe that we will give up after failing one time. The ability to endure frustrations can be trained. We just face these difficulties later than the elders. If we have determination, we can conquer the hard time. The word “strawberry” is used to described those who do not have courage to face setbacks not our whole generation.

In e-generation, some young people are marked as “Strawberry Generation” because they can not stand for frustrations and pressure. However, although it is just a few cases, I think that there are mainly two reasons, life condition and parenting changing. Before, the life condition is not as good as now. Most of the people have to earn money, do farm work, and take care of their younger brothers and sisters when they were very young. Some people even can not go to school even though they want to. What’s more, parents at that time gave birth to lots of children. Therefore, older brothers and sisters have to take care of the youngster for sure. Nowadays, life condition has become better and better, children have fewer even no hardships when they were young. As a consequence, they aren’t capable of bearing hardships.
回覆刪除Also, nowadays, parents give birth to fewer children, so they give more attention and care to each child. As for parenting, because parents give birth to fewer children, more and more parents tend to boil children. They tend to do everything for their children because they are afraid that their children would do wrongly or they cannot do it. As a result, their children do not want to do everything and rely on the parents no matter when they confront problems. Thus, it leads to their incapable of putting up with pressure and setbacks. Also, their ability is not enough to do the job their employers want them to do.
However, it is unfair to call the people in this generation “Strawberry Generation.” Even though there are some people who belong to the group; some people are really competent and reliable. Also, they study and work hard. We can not label all the people in this generation as “Strawberry Generation” just because some people’s misbehaviors. As a consequence, I believe that there are some people belong to the group in every generation, more in this generation because of better life condition and different parenting.
I think your point of parenting is right. I can feel this change when I see my cousin’s child. My cousin has a little girl. The little girl is spoiled and wayward. I really do not like this child because she is hard to take care. I am also worry about her future. My cousin does too much things for her. This girl will not be able to do anything when she grows up. Nowadays, parents are taking too much care about their children. It will not help them but do harm to them. Sometimes, parents should let their children experience some setbacks and teach them the right attitude toward them. Parents should also teach their children to do housework when they were little. Therefore, children will know how to take care by themselves when they grow up.
