  1. Yes, I wan to keep a pet in the future. Actually, my father keeps a dog now, and I love the dog very much. It is a German Shepherd, and we have pet him since I was in junior high, so he is very old now. According to an animal website, the average lifespan of German Shepherd is ten to eleven years old, and he is nine years old now. Therefore, I’m afraid that I can’t see him one day when I wake up. In my mind, my pet is very naughty and he always bites lots of things and makes me feel angry. When he was a puppy, he always bit and played balls. When he was playing balls, he was a cute dog, but when he was biting, he was a hateful dog. Furthermore, he is very picky about food, and he always dislikes the food we prepare for him. He really takes me a lot time and effort to ask him to finish his dishes every day. In conclusion, I think dogs are just like kids, they are naughty and cute, even though they always make one feel angry, they just want to catch one’s attention. I really love my pet, and I will love him forever.
If I have a chance to keep a pet, I want to have Golden Retrieverin because I think Golden Retrieverins are cute. In fact, Golden Retrieverin’s shining fur really attracts my attention, every time I see their fur, I am eager to take them home. Furthermore, Golden Retrieverins are very smart, friendly and loyal, so they are very popular in Taiwan. Also, they are patient, especially to kids. In fact, I always go to Ximen, and there is a Golden Retrieverin named A-Mao in a restaurant. He is very lovely and I always visit him on weekend. I must keep Golden Retrieverin someday!
If I have chance to keep a dog, I want to play balls and catch Frisbees with him. Also, teaching him how to shake hands with other people is necessary. I just can’t wait for the day keeping pets by myself to come!

  2. After one of my red-eared sliders passed away, I gave up my dream as a good owner.
I think that almost every child would like to have a pet in their lives. I am not an exception. My first pet was a paradise fish, which was bought from my elementary school carnival. (You can find that I use the past tense in this paragraph.) As the first pet in my life, the fish was cherished like my sister though I didn’t know that it was “him” or “her.” I even named her “little red” for her color. However, a paradise fish should live in the paradise after all. On an accidental day, the little red went home—the paradise she belonged to. Unfortunately, her corpse was thrown into a toilet by my mom in the end.
For a naughty girl, the first pet is not always the last one. The second victim of my “dark finger (contrary to a green thumb)” is a stag beetle. The beetle was caught near my grandmother’s house. I still remember its appearance. Like a warrior, its dark armor was a little brown, shining under the sunshine with golden green. It born a warrior’s birth and died a warrior’s death. Due to childish cruelty and ignorance, my sister and I put it into a cardboard box with some leaves and wood. Apparently, this kind of man-made “nature” is not suitable for the beetle. The beetle died two days later. After that, we found that there are some nicks inside the cardboard box. To honor the beetle, its remains was put in a paper cup and kept in a refrigerator.
    (My mom is scared.)
From then on, I still kept pets until one of my red-eared sliders (turtles) visited the “little red” and the beetle. It dawned on me that I am not a good owner rather than an undertaker or a killer. I never dream of having pets after seeing lots of tragedies. I threw the relics of my pet dream forever.

Amen, for the little red, the valiant beetle, the red-eared turtle and the yum. (I will tell her story next.)
    The worst owner with regret,

  3. Well, everyone seems to be busy this week. I only see Joy’s writing so I merely respond to her. Sorry, maybe I have to write my story about “yam” later, after your paragraphs appear.
Joy, your must love dog so much. After reading your essay, I feel your favor toward your pet. The German shepherd in your home is like your brother. Like a little boy, he will picky about food, play ball game and keep biting. Your descriptions are so vivid.
Also, I think of Quill(可魯) when knowing that you want to keep a Golden retriever. And, I feel a little curious about Quill’s breed. After yahoo(similar to google it) it, I find that Quill is Labrador retriever instead of Golden retriever. (ps. Golden retriever is long-haired. Labrador is short-haired.) These two kinds of dogs are so similar that many people will get confused.
Joy, can I ask you a question? You write “retrieverin ” in your paragraph. Is “retrieverin” a foreign call of retriever? I just guess so because when I yahoo it, I found some foreign language similar to German (but I’ve not found it in German dictionary.) Can you tell me that the word “retrieverin ” is from where?

Thank you for your sharing of your lovely pet.
    Best regards,
    Tina Lee

  4. I already have a pet dog. Her name is A-ju. My brother found her when he was in university. She was abandoned when she was born. She had a sister, but our family can not afford two dogs. Therefore, her sister, A-hua, is sent to others. A-ju is a really cute dog. Sometime, she will do something stupid and make us laugh out loud. I like to play catch and throw with her. I will throw the ball and she will catch it then gives it to me. It is really nice to keep a pet. Sometimes, I feel amazing about this creature, dog, she will never angry with you or even unfaithful to you. Therefore, I must treat her very good right? I might get many friends, but I am the only one she has. However, I worry about the day that I will lose A-ju. I know it is inevitable, but I am not sure whether I can stand this. Anyway, the only thing I can do for A-ju is accompanying with her as much as I can, but I am in Yhai Yi right now. I miss her. : (

  5. Sorry guys...for my late post! But it's really happy to read your stories, I feel very released when reading your experience so now I regard reading the blog as a relaxed activity for my life now. Anyway, back to the topic! As you can see from the topic I raised up, it is not hard to tell that I am an animal-lover. I always dreamed to have my own pet when I was little, but my mom did not like animals and she thought that keeping dogs or cats was something meaningless also a waste of money. Besides, she thought dogs are stinky. Therefore, I did not have a chance to keep pets like dogs; instead, we used to have a paradise fish which had bad temper so it was hard for me to “play” with it.
However, one day in my junior life, my brother and I found a kitty on the stair in our apartment. She was just born, but her mother was missing so that she was hungry and freezing for several days. We sent her to the veterinarian immediately and brought her home. We took care of her for two days, but she still could not make it and she passed away. I was extremely sad since I regard her as my first pet. Every night I would put her on my belly so that she would feel warmer; however, she just left. After that I was really regretful, I think if I could find her few days earlier then probably I would not lose her. R.I.P., my beloved kitty. This experience made me quit my desire of keeping a pet for a while. Because I think I am a very soft-hearted person, and I would easily full in love with animal very quickly. When they left me, I would feel very upset in a long period of time. Even now when I think of the kitty I feel like to cry.
However, in last May, my boyfriend bought a long-haired dachshund and we named him “Bibo”. Most of the time Bibo lives with my boyfriend, but if my boyfriend needs to go back to Yunlin, then Bibo would come to my house. Therefore, Bibo is my pet as well. This time I can really feel the feeling of an owner. Bibo is a very naughty little boy; he is only 1 year old. He likes to bite everything around him and that makes us feel troubled. However, when he first became our pet, he had poor health condition and after our carefully care to him, now he is a healthy boy. He is very hospitality and always energetic. Whenever there is someone near him, he will jump up to that person and want to play with him/her or give a big kiss to him/her. Every time I go to my boyfriend’s home, Bibo would give me a super passion welcome kiss and hug which always make me feel joyful. I love him so much! He has done much hilarious stuff, if I have time later I would tell you the stories.
Just like May had mentioned, I always want to give Bibo the best care since I think to him, perhaps we are his whole world and whole life. He could not go out freely or eat whatever he wants. Actually it’s quite poor to become a pet since he does not have his own will. Although I am not sure whether he needs the free will or not, I still want to give him more free life. Thus I do not want to feel regretful again like the time I lost the kitty.

  6. Hello, everyone. I find that you three are all animal lovers and take good care of your pets. After reading your stories, I feel greatly guilty of my “dark finger.” Also, you four seem to love dog very much. However, I am somewhat afraid of dogs because I have been chased by a puppy and fell down in my childhood. From then on, if I see dogs fighting, I definitely dare not go through there on my own. I have to say that sometimes I am a bit envy those who can get along with animals well. As a result, you can find that pets I have ever had are all quiet (or you can say safe.) Maybe, in my unconsciousness, the trauma in childhood is always with me.

But I really dare not keep a pet anymore, even a virtual one. I have mentioned yum in my former comments. Actually, yum is a Tomatachi (online pet.) Have you ever heard of “yum babies” in yum space? Yum is a virtual pet which is a sweet potato. You can choose its gender and personality. And, you can feed it, talk and play with it. You will win some medals if you take good care of it. But, if you have not seen him/her for a long time, your yum will be put into orphanage. I know that when you see this description you may guess what happen to my yum in the end. Indeed, my yum is abandoned by me since I was ten year old or so.

Since Maggie talks about paradise fish again, I recall one of the victims of my dark finger. Other than the “little red,” I have kept another paradise fish. The fish takes his/her last sleep in an earthquake. In fact, he/she is frightened to death. I remember that he/she kept jumping and jumping during the earthquake. After the vibration, his/her life is end at the same time.

I could not agree Joy, May and Maggie more that once we keep a pet, we may encounter a time at which we lose them. I do really hope that pet can live a happy time in their short life. On the other side, people are like pet of themselves. Aren’t we? We are struggling in our lives and pursuit happiness. If we can find a faithful friend, that is good indeed. That’s why we need pets. Isn’t it? Hope my comments may not sound strange.
    Sincerely,
    Tina Lee

  7. To Tina Lee, abandoning pets is not a good thing to do. I can understand that you were still a child and did not know well about responsibility. After starting raising A-ju, I understand that keeping pets is not merely about having fun with them. It is about responsibility. We can see many cases in our lives that there are people abandon their pet. These animals have no places to go and no food to eat. They even become problems to our society. As there are more animals abandoned by human, there will be more problems and even more complicated situations in our society. Therefore, we should all think before we leap.
