My favorite cartoon in my childhood is Princess Sarah. It is based on a famous novel “A Little Princess.” It is a Japanese cartoon, but the setting is placed in the U.K. The main character in this cartoon is Sarah, a girl who has a noble character. Her mother died when she was a child. Her father is a mining merchant and has to go to India to work, so he sends her to a school only for girls. One day, Sarah gets the message that her father died in India. The principal knows this news and thinks that Sarah has become a penniless girl. As a consequence, she treats Sarah in a totally different way. She makes Sarah be a servant in the school and live in the attic, an old and dirty room. Because of this big change on her status, Sarah is humiliated by her classmate, Winnie, who has been jealous of Sarah for a long time. Although being treated in this way, Sarah does not feel angry or even hate them. I was moved by her kindness. She is the most kindhearted girl in the world. I love this cartoon because I wish that I would have the noble character as Sarah. Sarah is the real princess in my heart.

I always love to watch cartoons; even now I am a 21 years old college student, my favorite type of TV program is still cartoon. Therefore when I saw this week’s topic of our web blog, I felt very interested in the cartoons that you guys love. Since I have seen several kinds of good cartoons, it is hard to choose which one is my favorite. I decide to choose two classic cartoons which I even have kept watching now from my elementary school time. The first one is the classic and popular “Sailor Moon”; it is definitely one of the most famous Japanese cartoons in the world, I even found many kinds of translation of Sailor Moon, like English, Germany and also Spanish. The main feature of the cartoon is that the painter use the star’s name to name the sailors, and all of them have different characters and powers. And every time they would encounter different monsters or enemies, they need to unity power to defeat the bad guys and also pursue their goals.
回覆刪除However, when I was little, my favorite character was not the leading actress Sailor Moon, instead, I preferred Sailor Saturn. She is a quiet and shy little girl who is once be used by the enemy part. Perhaps she is so special and not appears so frequently as other sailors, I like her very much. This cartoon has at least 5 different series, and I could not remember whether I did watch them all or not, but I am sure that if I have time, I would love to spend my leisure time watching all the series. To sum up, I regard Sailor Moon as an outstanding cartoon because there are many creative plots and distinguishing figures for us to view as models, and it made a breakthrough of creating the image of female heroes.
The other one is “Card Captor Sakura”. First time I saw the picture of the cartoon, I was attractive by the beautiful dresses that Sakura wore every time when she had a mission. The cartoon is talking about Sakura, an elementary school student, who needs to gather the missing and lost cards from each event and task. This cartoon has two series and two movies. I love all of them and I really like the style of CLAMP (the group that draws the cartoon). During her adventure of gathering card, she had encountered many difficulties but she always kept a bright view toward the challenges and did not give up easily. Here are the clips of the two opening from the cartoons, if you are interesting in you can watch them!

Hello, ladies. My name is Tine Lee. I am glad to join this blog project. Today’s topic is very interesting. I like to watch animation since childhood. (So called TV child, ha ha.) “Ikkyu San” (一休和尚)is one of my favorite cartoons. When “Ikkyu” is six years old , he is sent to “Ankoku Temple”(安國寺) by his mother. (Actually, Ikkyu’s father is the emperor. There are some secrets behind Ikkyu’s birth.) His mother does not only want to save him from being murdered but hope him to be a respectable man in the future. In the temple, Ikkyu practices Buddhist rules earnestly. Also, he helps many people with his wit and intelligence.
回覆刪除The most famous scene in the cartoon is Ikkyu‘s way of meditation. Whenever Ikkyu encounters something difficult, he will sit down and rotates his two index fingers on his head. At the same time, the background music will be wooden fish’s sound. “Rat-tat, rat-tat, rat-tat……, clang.” Upon an idea hits him, a sound of earthen bowl will pop up. It is also my favorite scene in the “Ikkyu San.” When I was knee-high to a grasshopper, I like to imitate Ikkyu’s meditation for fun. It makes me feel a little yearn for my childhood. Maybe, it is a kind of childhood dream.
Besides, while watching Ikkyu, the other amusing thing is singing. “Suki, suki, suki, suki, suki, suki, aishiteru......” Even I could not speak Japanese, I like to sing the opening song with TV. Since then, it has been about ten years. But, I can still remember the rhythm and the first (and only) sentence I can sing in the song.
I love the animation so much that when it is end, I feel somewhat lost. The following cartoon after “Ikkyu San” are “Detective Conan” and “Doraemon.” These two cartoons are my partners to accompany me in my childhood, too. But I never forget the old happy times with “Ikkyu San.” It is my favorite cartoon forever and ever.

Hope you guys enjoy it. (The most pleasant version is Japanese just as expectation.)
Sincerely,
Tina
My favorite cartoon is “Chibi Maruko Chan” (櫻桃小丸子), it is a cartoon that talked about the things happened on an innocent, and cute girl named Chibi Maruko Chan’s daily life and the scenes she got along with her classmates and family. The cartoon vividly described innocent opinions of kids and their interaction with family. In this cartoon, every character has different personalities and I think my personality is just like Chibi Maruko Chan, optimistic and forgetful. I still remembered when I was in an elementary school, when I got home, the first thing I did was turn on the TV and watch the “Chibi Maruko Chan”. At that time, my age was very close to Chibi Maruko Chan, so I always think she was one of my friends in real life. In fact, my even had the same haircut as Chibi Maruko Chan. In my opinion, the most impressive part of this cartoon is that the characters always have embarrassing expression. For example, there were three black lines appearing on the characters’ faces or a crow flies through the characters’ back when the characters’ felt embarrassing.
回覆刪除“Chibi Maruko Chan” accompanies me grow up. Even though I have grown up now, I still watched “Chibi Maruko Chan” when I have free time. I think it is a pity that there is no ending in the cartoon because I really look forward to see all the characters grow up and get married. I want to know whether Chibi Maruko Chan is still forgetful when she becomes a mother. I think “Chibi Maruko Chan” accompanies many people grow up and“Chibi Maruko Chan” will always be a good memory in everyone’s mind. All in all, everyone should be innocent all the time even though when we grew up!

Hello, ladies and Doris.
回覆刪除I am Tina Lee from CCU. I am delighted to see so much retrospective cartoons. I have ever seen all the four cartoons you are fond of. These cartoons are really typical and unforgettable for almost every child. First, May loves “A Little Princess” due to Sarah’s noble character. I agree with you. In my opinion, the reason why Sarah is a princess is not because of her wealth but her kindness. I believe that you can be a little princess as your hope.
Second, to Maggie, I am a little surprised by your first cartoon “Sailor Moon” owing to its old age. Are you still watching this series indeed? If yes, I admire your perseverance and passion for this long series indeed. Besides, your favorite character is special. I forget Sailor Saturn actually but I goole it a bit. I find that Sailor Saturn is cute (her haircut is similar to Chibi Maruko Chan.) And, Sailor Saturn’s power is only second to Sailor Noon, the protagonist. It is amazed me again that Sailor Saturn wants sacrifice herself to protect all the Sailors. Also, another animation, card captor Sakura is lovely, too. By the way, have you seen “Tsubasa,” another film of CLAMP? Many characters of ClAMP have shown in the cartoon. Hope you can take a look at it.
Third, to Joy, your favorite cartoon is exactly like your name, joyful and fascinating. Lots of characters in the ‘Chibi Maruko Chan” are entertaining for me, like Kazuhiko Hanawa(花輪和彥,First time, I hear about Hanawa’s given name,) Sueo Maruo (丸尾末雄), Shigeru Fujiki (藤木茂), etc. Also, I think that I am forgettable like Maruko sometimes. In addition, I consider that your “innocence” in the writing means childish heart, right? For me, I hope that I could live a carefree life as Maruko and be a child forever. Even though it is impossible, I deem that I could be a child or have a childish heart while watching animation. May you have a childish heart, too.
Thank you for your sharing.
Tina
I am glad that you guys like this topic. Your favorite cartoon is also my wonderful memory in my childhood.

At first I did not know what is Sailor Moon. After watching the link you gave, I was surprised. I love this cartoon! This cartoon is an important memory in my childhood. Thanks for reminding me of this cartoon. It is really a classic cartoon. The other cartoon, Card Captor, is also a great cartoon. I like the yellow little thing that always accompanies with Sakura. It is so cute.

I like Ikkyu San. But I did not watch it very often in my childhood. I think Ikkyu is a nice child. It is also a classic cartoon.

Wow! l think this cartoon is really funny. All characters have their own personality. I like the boy who always says “bu” after his speaking. He is really funny. It is definitely a classic cartoon.
