What do you think is the proper clothing style for a college girl?
There is a link of an article below.
You can read this article if you have time. It is an interesting article.
Clothing Tips for College Girls: Practical Campus Fashion Advice for Freshman Year and Beyond
Topic contributed by May. Next one is Maggie.
Thank you for giving us a direction to write on this topic, May. The essay you provided is informative and useful. I learn much from it. Some clothing tips in the article can be applied even on the job. Also, the writing style is free, colloquial and amusing. It gave me a sample of conversational writing.
回覆刪除Back to our main topic, I agree with the key word of clothing on campus “practical.” I am not a fashionable girl actually. I prefer to wear comfortable than beautiful commonly. My classmates in senior high have once called my dressing style as “decadent.” Anyway, for me, clothing is something to feel other than something to see. I mean that quality is an important factor for me to pick clothes. Corresponding to number three in Clothing Tips for College Girls, a wearable clothes is my best choice. As for the suitable style for college girls, my opinions are as an old saying, “Choose what you love, and love what you choose.” But I will add a sentence into the proverb. “Also, choose what you feel at ease.”
In the case of number four, weather appropriate clothes, I could not agree more with the author. Since Chia Yi is extreme weather, frigid at night and in early morning, I make it a rule to see weather forecast. Also, I will bring a light jacket for fear of getting cold in classroom with air conditioner in summer. (I hate air conditioner.) A light jacket can also keep me from sunburn. Besides, umbrella or raincoat is essential especially in rainy season. Even though umbrella and raincoat are like accessories rather than clothing, I think rain gears are indispensible. I will bring light raincoat instead of umbrella if the probability of raining is low. In addition, when I have many heavy books, I will choose to bring raincoat to save a hand for carrying books.
All in all, I deem that function is more important than beauty for a college lady.

As I mention above, I think that utility and ease are basic factors for wearing on campus. Here, I make some supplements. Other than clothing, I deem that make-up is what we can learn before we graduate. Since we may face certain formal occasions, make-up become a proprieties. Also, on campus, we have to show our respect to professors and class. Like number six in Clothing Tips for College Girls, we cannot wear slippers in class. In addition, when it comes to dressing, color will play an important part usually. For instance, if you prefer to look thin, try to wear black. Besides, pattern on clothes have similar influence. When you are slim, you should wear clothes with fat transverse stripes then you will look not so skinny. To sum up, how to wear proper needs time and efforts. If we can see some fashion magazines, books or ask those who are good at dressing, we can be fair lady one day.
回覆刪除p.s. Um… Sorry to say something impolite and harsh a little bit. Sometimes, I will not know how to respond if there is merely my comment on the blog. Hope to see your writings no matter how long it is or I will feel like murmuring with myself. I suggest that if you miss one of our discussions, you can make up with it from our latest one. In this way, our interaction may become smoother than before, right?
Best wishes,

The reason why I choose this topic is that I saw many girls dolled up in the campus. I do not mean that to doll up in the campus is bad. I just think that it is not necessary. For example, many girls love to wear high heel shoes. Come on, wearing high heel shoes around the campus is a thing that tortures your feet. We have many classes on Monday to Friday. We will walk constantly because different classes have different classrooms. “Ladies, please don’t walk around campus in high-heeled pumps. This isn’t Sex and the City-- it’s a college campus, and you’re going to be walking constantly. Save the cute heels for the weekend. “They are sentences from the article that I put on this week’s topic. I really love this part. Its writing makes me laugh out loud. Another case is that I saw girls put on make-up in the campus. Putting on make-up moderately is okay. If someone is putting too much make-up on her face, it is definitely not good. On the one hand, if the weather is hot and you put on make-up to go out, you have to go to the toilets and check out whether your make-up is destroyed by your sweat constantly. Doing this is really a waste of time. On the other hand, the fragrance from the make-up may disturb others in the class. I am the one whose nose is allergic to fragrance and perfume. If someone seat near me is wearing perfume or putting on too much make-up, my nose will feel uncomfortable and keep sneezing. To sum up, I prefer wearing comfortable in the campus instead of wearing pretty. Unless there is an occasional reason that I have to dress up, or I will wear casual clothing all the time.
回覆刪除At first I want to apologize to you guys, since I have been missed for several weeks and now I am trying to catch up your paces. I feel guilty when seeing your hard working of the response.
回覆刪除Back to the topic, I think this week’s topic is so interesting, especially the essay that May had provided. This essay is as practical as the suggestions the author mentioned in the paragraphs. Actually, I am wondering what’s the phenomenon of girl’s dressing in May’s and Tina’s school. Like in FJU, you can see many girls that you so called “dolled up” walking everywhere, especially in the foreign language college and the area of department of Textiles and Clothing. Not only dressing in a fancy way, they also have some famous brand bags or accessories. I admit that sometimes I would admire their dressing since they are really fashionable, however I would also doubt that where they got the money from to buy a 40,000 boutique bag. In my opinion, I agree with the essay that saying dress should be practical because most of the time I wear jeans, shirts and flat shoes to school. I tried to wear high heels to school, however, the result turn out to be a pair of hurt and tired legs and feet. Perhaps our campus is not as big as May’s and Tina’s school, we still need to walk a lot in our campus and that is tiring enough. However, in our campus, it is not weird to see tons of girls wearing high heels walking around the classrooms and hallways. And sometimes the high of the heels is horrible and unbelievable; we would wonder how those girls could walk freely when stepping on the stairs.
However, to be honest, I do not disagree with girls who dressing fancy to class since dressing beautifully is not a bad thing. The only case which makes me frown is dressing “half-naked”. Perhaps I’m a more conservative girl; hence, I would feel uncomfortable if wearing extremely short. Because I would need to be always conscious about my dress and prevent it from becoming so short that everyone could see my underwear. And also, dressing half-naked would influence other classmate’s concentration, especially for male students. Furthermore, when a male professor is teaching in front of you, he would not be sure where he should put his eyes on. Sexy dressing might bring the girls some chances to know more boys, but this is not an appropriate idea when going to school. After all, school is a place for learning academic knowledge and some meaningful extra curriculums but not dating. Thus, except dressing too sexy or wearing dirty clothes, other dressing styles for me are acceptable.
(In the last paragraph, I need to confess. (Haha!) Sometimes I wear slippers to school as well. In our school, wearing slippers are popular and common. But I am not wearing slipper which we wear at home, my slippers is designed and decorated. Oh! It sounds like I am defending for myself! LOL!) I know that it is some how not suitable to wear slippers to school since it looks like you are going to the market to buy stuff but not going to school for learning. But actually if on the top you wear something appropriate, then the image of wearing slippers would not be too casual like you are at home.
For me, proper clothing style for a college girl is that the clothing can make girls feel comfortable and happy. Take myself for example; I always wear T-shirt and pants to go to school because I think it is very comfortable and convenient. In fact, I always get up late and have little time to dress myself. Therefore, it took me about ten minutes to decide whether I should wear in a day because I will utilize the brushing teeth time to think what I should wear. I won’t deny that if I could wake up earlier, I would like to spend time dressing myself to make myself more beautiful. I agree with Maggie’s point, many girls in FJU dolled up in the campus. In my opinion, I think it is not bad that people spend time dressing up to make them more beautiful. For me, those who choose to wear high-heels are their freedom and if they got hurt, they should be responsible for their choices. Also, one might say those who wear beautiful must spend much time dressing themselves and they don’t focus on studies, but I don’t think so. Actually, many beautiful girls focus on both beauty and studies.
回覆刪除Actually, I have to admit that I wear slippers to school and I wear slippers almost every day in summer because I think it can make me feel comfortable and convenient. I know it is impolite to wear slippers to school, but if you see most of your classmates wear it, you will think it is nature and reasonable to wear it to school. It seems that the idea of wearing slippers to school be changed. In FJU, it seems to be nature and reasonable, and I think many people will think we these people who wear slippers to school are crazy, but I don’t care. All in all, wearing what kinds of clothes should depend on the situation. For example, if one is going to an interview, one must wear formal clothes instead of wearing T-shirt, pants and slippers. In my opinion, the most important of all is that one should wear the clothes that can make one feel happy and comfortable no matter what kinds of clothes they are.
