  1. Hello, ladies. Long time no see. Have you all passed your mid-term exam and reports? Anyway, good luck to you (and me.) Back to the topic, I have a facebook account, but I never use it to play games. Actually, I just apply for a Facebook account during winter vacation because I have to join the class reunion in my senior high. Also, I take part in the Facebook account of our English writing class. However, I seldom log in my Facebook and thus rarely visit our English writing web page. In fact, I will see my Facebook only when someone adds me to her/his friends’ list (or I feel bored to death that day.)

I do not want to visit Facebook frequently because I already have a little internet addiction. Besides, I am unwilling to spend much time to socialize with people in virtual world. That is, I prefer to communicate with people in reality. To be frank, I had been made numerous net friends through online games since senior high. Nevertheless, after I entered college, I realized that online relationships may be superficial and dangerous sometimes.

When it comes to Facebook, lots of people will think of Happy Farm and many other games on Facebook. As I mentioned above, I never play these game. But, I had fascinated by a PC game which is similar to Happy Farm. The PC game called “Harvest Moon(牧場物語).” It is PC game so it can just be played on personal computers. Because the Harvest Moon was originally in GBA(Game Boy Advance, a handheld video game console,) unlike Happy Farm, it cannot connect with other players. That is to say, it is not an online game. As a result, I feel safe to play Harvest Moon and have fun in playing it. For me, the Harvest Moon is more entertaining than Happy Farm in the Facebook.

  2. Yes, I have an account of Facebook
I addicted it before, but I think I am not addicted it now. I still remembered I spent much time on facebook before, especially on Pet Society and Happy Farm. I was addicted to them because they were very interesting. In Pet Society, one could design a pet’s appearance and name it. I think having a pet is fun and we can do many things for them. For instance, one can buy food in restaurant to feed the pet and let pet exercise in the stadium. Also, one can take the pet to go fishing. It’s fun! I ever spent a night and learned how to go fishing. Finally, I succeeded and I was good at fishing. Moreover, I enjoyed dressing my pet and visiting my friends’ pet. I enjoyed watching her eat, drink, and play with her friends. Therefore, I always take pictures for her to record her cute action. I loved my pet very much and I think she is the cutest pet in the world. As for Happy Farm, I enjoyed it, too. On Happy Farm, one can plant fruits, vegetables. Also, if one earns a lot of money, one can hire a dog to guard the farm. Another interesting function of Happy Farm is that one can put worms on friends’ plants, and I really enjoy this function a lot. I don’t know why I want to put worms on my friends’ plants, maybe it is fun and they are not really worms and they won’t have really effect of their owner.
I think there are many reasons that I ever addicted on facebook. I think I was addicted to those games because they could make one feel a sense of achievement. Also, they could let one do many things that one couldn’t do in a real life. In those games, I think one only has to spend much time on it, and one can get much money and buy many things in the virtual world. However, one will feel boring after one spends much time on it. I am happy that I am not addicted to facebook now, because I can use the time I waste on facebook to do something meaningful now.

  3. I have an account of Facebook and I admit that I am a little addicted to Facebook! However, compare to the past few months, now I am not as crazy about FB as the past. I started to use it from last March, so till now, I have been using FB for about a year. What’s the purpose for logging FB for me? To be honest, my purpose is to play games and also check my friends’ messages. I remember the beginning period when I played FB in last year, I spent many time on playing the games since there are millions (of course exaggerate XD! ) of games on the program. And it would never make you boring when you log in FB, because you could always find some interesting little games.
However, I always spent too many times on playing Facebook, thus I delayed many assignment when I began to use Facebook. Then afterwards, I realized that I was totally wasting my time; and the assignments in our department were not a small burden, how could I abandon those works then play the Facebook? I have also seen some of my friends were totally in love with this website, and stayed up so late that he/she skipped class all the time. Thus, I know that although FB is a convenient and interesting website, we should have strong enough ability to self control.
Like Joy had mentioned, I play Pet Society and Restaurant City the most, and also lately, there’s a new one called Hotel City, which by names you could get the main idea of the games. In PS, I love the things that I could do for my pet as Joy said, I often joked that my pet’s clothes and toys are more than mine. And in RC, I could become the owner of the restaurant and choose whatever I want to serve in my restaurant. In HC, I’m the owner of a hotel, and I could decorate my hotel rooms. I don’t know whether Joy and my words are attractive to you guys, but actually my purpose is not to promote the games to you. (Haha! It would be very dangerous once you become addicted to FB.) But I want to point out that games on FB are somehow a kind of way to releasing stress and escape from the real world, especially from the assignments’ torture.
And Tina, I love to play PC games as well. When I have not play FB, I used to play games like “世紀帝國” with my brother. I think I had heard the game you mentioned, but I never played it before. Perhaps in summer vacation I could give it a try. And one of the advantages of FB is that classmates could gather on the website, I used FB to have contact with my old friends as well, it is more easy and quick than writing an email. I had about hundreds of friends on the FB, people from many countries add me into the friend list because of the games. However, I never chat with them or really get to know about them. That’s also a strange phenomenon after FB is worldwide used.

  4. Wow, it seems that almost every college student have a Facebook account. After reading your experience, I am glad that I never touch these games. But your introductions are somewhat attractive. Contrary to you, I feel like a country mouse. Actually, among games in the Facebook, I only know Happy Farm. When I know Facebook has so many functions, I think that no wonder it is so famous.

For Joy, Pet Society sounds good. It has no sanitary problems. Also, for people who have “dark finger” (like me), virtual pets are the best pet. When I read your fishing training, I burst out laughing unconsciously. Luckily, you are not so crazy about Facebook now. After all, in my opinion, using time in reality to exchange products (like your pets clothes) is not economical a little bit.

For May, I am happy that you have interest in Harvest Moon. Besides, I have ever played “Age of Empires” for a short time in elementary school. (so you will know that I have internet addiction since childhood. Just kidding.) In your writings, you use many abbreviations. You look like an expert in Facebook. Also, to my astonishment, you mentioned that some classmates skip class for Facebook. I feel lucky that our addictions are not so serious.

Both of you have heaps of clothes for your pets. As my thinking goes, shopping virtual products is a kind of compensation. Maybe we do not have large amount of money in real world, but we can have it in Facebook. Therefore, we tend to shop online or spend much time on it.

p.s. I reserve my Harvest Moon talk on the next comment. I am so excited that talk too much.

    Carpe dim,
    Tina Lee

  5. I do have a facebook account. I think facebook is a good platform that you can see a lot of latest information on it. I am not really addicted to facebook but I do use it every day. I always become a fan of the people, magazines, TV program or bands that I love, such as TOTEM, Mrs. This, Staycool, Echo, Coldplay, The Temper Trap, Taipei Arts Festival, dpi. Therefore, I can follow the new information of them. This is the best part of facebook I think. I also love to play a game called Geo Challenge on facebook. This game challenges your knowledge to geography. I play this game to improve my ability of recognizing the flags of countries, and the locations of many countries. Besides learning information and play games on facebook, I can use facebook to tell my parents how I am. I can upload the photos on the facebook to share with my family and friends, so they can know what I have done in the school. Facebook is really good. It has a great number of functions and people can choose the functions that they need to get what they want. However, it is not good to be addicted to it. Using facebook appropriately can make you learn more.

  6. Wow, all of you use facebook to play little game. For me, facebook is more than entertainment. I love art and design very much. Recently, I became a fan of many club that concern art and design. Philippe Stark is recognized as the king of design. Few weeks ago, I became a fan of him on facebook. I began to appreciate the works of his and his works are impressive to me. He is so talented. Yesterday, there was a new message on his facebook. This message is about a film of Philippe Stark. I love this film and I also love facebook because if I did not use facebook, I will never discover this great information. Facebook is brilliant.
